What is Sporting Clays?
Sporting Clays is also know as "golf with a shotgun" because of the similarities of being highly social, and the fact that no course is the same anywhere in the world.
The average size group is between two to five people, and each person shoots 50 or 100 clays during one around. At Silver Willow there is 14 stations and 28 auto machines that throw the targets with a push of a button. These machines throw at different velocities and speeds, and are portable for when the course is changed. The course is changed before every competition. Every station has a shooting stand, and only within these stands is the shotgun loaded and fired from.
The targets below are all thrown at Silver Willow. The Rabbit is projected from an automatic machine so that is bounces across the ground. The Standard is the most common sized target, and along with the midi and mini is thrown from every angle including out of towers and vertically into the air. The Battue is thinner than the rest and is thrown so that only the very edge can be seen (or not seen) until it turns in the air, making it a consistent challenge.
